What NAIW means to me
My membership and participation in Insurance Women of Richmond has contributed significantly to my professional growth and personal development. In 2003, I accepted a position as a Personal Lines Assistant Underwriter with Mutual Assurance Society of Virginia. I acquired this position through my association with Insurance Women of Richmond. My membership has provided me the forum for networking and building business alliances and has opened doors for new opportunities. This association has encouraged me to take a leadership role and has been an excellent environment for educational programs and career development. Insurance Women of Richmond has provided me the courage and confidence to return to taking educational classes after a long interruption. My newly acquired designations and professional achievements have added to my resume, thereby increasing my employment opportunities and salary potential. I am very proud of my personal and professional accomplishments since joining the Insurance Women of Richmond. My membership and involvement has been instrumental in my success. I encourage membership and believe joining this organization is a great investment.

As a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University, I won the IWOR scholarship that is awarded on Industry Night. After graduating from college and continuing in the insurance industry I wanted to get more involved and give back to the community. IWOR has many different opportunities for networking within our industry and within our community with our monthly meetings, regional and state conferences and gives a great opportunity to get to know different facets of the insurance industry with each member belonging to a different company and different segment of the industry. In addition to networking opportunities, we give back to the community and one way we do that is by doing our annual Christmas event with the William Byrd House center where we provide Christmas for those children who may be less fortunate. While networking and giving back to the community you are also able to obtain continuing education credits with our various courses or conferences for a minimal cost or no cost at all. It is really a win/win situation being a part of this organization.

I value the friendships that I have made through Insurance Women of Richmond. Professionally, Insurance Women of Richmond has created opportunities for contacts in the insurance industry that I would not have otherwise. The monthly meetings give me a chance to network and learn something from our speaker. I love to tell the story of being a member prior to leaving the insurance industry to become a stay at home mom and when I needed to return to work the person that hired me was a member of Insurance Women of Richmond. We had worked together on the education committee prior to my leaving the industry and I believe this was the reason she was willing to hire me when I had not worked for a couple of years.
I believe “Belonging is Good Business”
